Application for admission to study
The Admissions Office helps with all questions relating to registration for a course of study at the University of Bern, semester registration, leave of absence, transition from bachelor to master and from master to doctorate/PhD and finally deregistration. It processes applications for admission, in particular from foreign applicants, registers exchange students, registers auditors, advises and provides information at the counter, by phone and by e-mail, and is responsible for sending bulk e-mails to students in accordance with the applicable guidelines.

Career entry, career and career path
Students who wish to prepare for starting their career during their studies (study jobs, internships/trainees, direct entry) can receive support from the Career Service. The Career Service offers enrolled students (BA, MA) workshops to acquire application skills, counseling, courses with employers, a job portal, etc. for the transition from studies to working life.
The Career Service works in cooperation with the Universities of Bern Counselling Centre, which will assist you with any questions you may have about career planning and possible professional fields.

Mental health
The Universities of Bern Counselling Centre offers students psychological counseling and support. It is happy to provide support, for example, in dealing with stressful situations and crises, in promoting problem-solving skills or in helping improve quality of life.

Legal advice from the SUB
The Legal Advice Service of the SUB (RBD) offers individual legal advice for SUB members as well as for people wishing to begin their studies at the University of Bern. It offers advice in all areas of law, except tax law.

Student advice
Each phase of studies presents specific challenges: choosing a field of study, deciding on a suitable degree or identifying possible occupational fields. The Universities of Bern Counselling Centre will be happy to help with such questions, uncertainties or difficulties – confidentially and free of charge.

Student financing
Social Fund
The SUB Social Fund supports SUB and MVUB members and exchange students in acute financial emergencies. The Social Fund Commission can approve an amount of up to CHF 6,000 in the form of a support contribution or loan. However, you can also get in touch with the Social Fund if you have any questions about other financial matters. They can explain various options for financing your studies or offer further help in an interview or by e-mail.

Social Fund Foundation
The purpose of the Social Fund Foundation is to support students enrolled at the University of Bern who are in an acute financial emergency (unforeseen, through no fault of their own and not permanent) and who are about to complete a bachelor’s or master’s degree in the foreseeable future (i.e. one semester).

Work-life-balance
Students with care responsibilities towards children or relatives in need of care, extra-professional commitments or a time-consuming hobby are often faced with the question of how to balance these commitments in a way that promotes health. The office listed below offers advice and support.
